What Are You Avoiding?

Sometimes “I don't know” really means I don't like any of the answers.

Think about something you have been postponing, overthinking, repeatedly discussing, or waiting to feel certain about.

Then answer:

What decision, conversation, or action have I been avoiding?

What do I tell myself I still need before I can act?

More information? Confidence? Permission? Certainty? The right time? Someone else's agreement?

Now ask:

Do I actually need that—or would having it simply make this easier?

Then:

What am I afraid I will have to feel, accept, or give up if I move forward?

There may be a legitimate reason not to act yet. If there is, name it clearly.

But if you're waiting for the decision to become comfortable before you make it, you may wait a very long time.

Finish with:

The next thing I can do without having the entire answer is __________.
